The German-American Fulbright Commission Presents: Fulbright Perspectives

The German-American Fulbright Commission is continuing its Fulbright Perspectives online series on July 25, 2022 at 7 PM CEST (1 PM ET), with U.S. Fulbright alumna Prof. Dr. Priscilla Layne, who will share her vision on deconstructing obstacles in international mobility. Priscilla Layne is an Assistant Professor in the Germanic and Slavic Languages department at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill as well as the President of the Board of Director of the American Association of Teacher of German (AATG). In 2003-4 she came to Germany as an U.S. Teaching Assistant.

Priscilla Layne is author of White Rebels in Black: German Appropriation of Black Popular Culture (Michigan, 2018) and co-editor of Rebellion and Revolution: Defiance in German Language, History, and Art (with Melissa Etzler, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2010). Currently, she is working on her second book, Out of this World: Afro-German Afrofuturism, which focuses on Afro-German authors’ use of Afrofuturist concepts in literature and theater. In addition to this project, some of the broader themes she is interested in German national identity, conceptions of race and self/other in Germany, cross-racial empathy, post-colonialism, and rebellion.
